Saturday, February 27 - start time to be announced Requirements: Sea Kayaks at least 14' long & cold-water gear required; Prior Navigation I and Navigation II clinics or extensive navigation knowledge necessary
This ½ day (3 to 4 hour) on-water paddling trip will take the skills we discuss in the class room and put them to use in your boat. We will practice using ranges, fixing position, estimating distances, estimating time, setting ferry angles and calculating speed made good. Participants should bring all the gear needed to paddle safely in the conditions of the day (in winter a dry suit may be required please check with the us if you have a question), participant should also bring a chart of the area, a hand held compass and or deck mounted compass, chart pouch, a 12” to 18” piece of flexible string or a nav-aid tool, pencil and paper. Saturday, November 7 - 1 pm to 3 pm Learn about cold water shock and hypothermia and how to avoid and treat them with Dr. Eric Lehnes and understand how to dress safely for cold water paddling conditions with Jersey Paddler staff. 20% discount on in-stock cold water protective clothing during the weekend of this seminar!
Saturday, November 14 - 1 pm to 4 pm
Saturday, January 16 - 1 pm to 4 pm Requirements: Prior Navigation I clinic or basic navigation knowledge is recommended This 3-hour session covers how to estimate wind and currents and they affect your kayak. We will forecast wind and current conditions for the day and estimate how to adjust a course to correct for drift. We will also discuss how to calculate ferry angle and speed made good. First we will learn to make these calculation on the desk top and then we will learn simple ways to make these calculation from the cockpit of your boat. Participant should bring a compass and paper and pencil (with eraser :-). Led by Chris Raab.
Saturday, November 21 - 1 pm to 3 pm BobMacMaster, Jersey Paddler Kayak Fishing Guide, will lead you through your options for outfitting your custom fishing kayak. Learn about ways to outfit your kayak for fishing for your needs. See how and where to install rod holders, anchor trolleys and the many other accessories that you may choose for your fishing kayak. |
